With it came a reality that’s equal parts challenge and comedy. The world throws ignorance our way, but instead of letting it drag us down, we flip it on its head. TooLazy2Walk is proof that even when life rolls out the hard stuff, we can still roll forward. We’re just a couple crips making the best out of our situations.

TooLazy2Walk found us long before it became a brand. About 16 years ago, it started as nothing more than an Xbox gamertag. At 19 and 20, we thought the name was hilarious. But as life went on, it stopped being a joke. Out in society, people really thought we were “too lazy”—if we just tried harder, we wouldn’t need a wheelchair at all.

Several years ago, Kyle was taking a flight back home. At the time, he could safely travel in a manual chair. Upon landing, he asked for help with his bags and a push to the pickup area. When help arrived, they looked at him and said: “Why can’t you just push yourself?” Kyle explained that he physically couldn’t — and instead of showing compassion, the man who was there to “help” got visibly upset.

More recently, only a few months ago — just weeks before we officially opened — I saw a surgeon about correcting my clubfoot. He told me he wouldn’t fix it because “I don’t walk.” That wasn’t even the worst part — he told me we should amputate my leg because “I didn’t need it.” When I explained that I use that “useless” foot every day, he answered, “If I could figure out how to walk it would be worth saving.”

It’s moments like these — and so many more — that pushed us to reclaim the name. WE ARE TOOLAZY2WALK. We believe it’s okay to laugh at ourselves, to flip ignorance into motivation, and to turn every “you can’t” into fuel for proving the world wrong.
